Van Gogh Close-up

Gazing today at a close-up of Van Gogh's Starry Night Over the Rhone, and Starry Night for the Masters project in the acrylics section of wetcanvas.com. Man!! Looking at the edges and seeing where his brushstrokes begin. Looking at the tiling effect on the sky of the Rhone one. Much better than any painter who has everything blending in and flat! Tried to mimic the effect with the acryilics i have did not work. They are too smooth. Havent gotten any of the heavy body acrylics. Maybe he started with thick paint, and added turpentine or something to thin the things he wanted thinner? Ah well. To the painting!
